Around 8:00, depart Fes and make the trip to Merzouga. The first stop will be Ifrane, Morocco's version of Switzerland. This is where you may get a cup of coffee and then observe the Barbary apes in Azrou's cedar grove. We next take a car over the Middle Atlas Mountains to Midelt, which is also known as Morocco's capital apple, where you can eat lunch.
We continue our journey through the Ziz Valley, an oasis replete with palm trees and tiny traditional settlements, and over the Tizi-n-Talghemt pass, also referred to as the she-camel pass. There will be numerous stops along the route.
Arrive in the afternoon to Merzouga. When you arrive at your desert camp, your guide and camels will be waiting to transport you over the Erg Chebbi Dunes. Enjoy a view of an orange sunset from the top of a dune. Following a delectable dinner, the camp staff will start the fire so you can sit around it and listen to Berber music while the stars come out.

If today—which is a market day—you can learn about a traditional Moroccan market here (Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday). After that, return to Fez via Erfoud and the Ziz Valley. Drop you off at your Fes lodging to round off your two-day desert excursion.
